Cullen Macleod‘s Susan Nicholson clarifies that online and mail-order sales by WA liquor producers will not be subject to the liquor restriction limits imposed by the State Government earlier this week.

In recognising the 3 bottle per customer per day limit was simply unworkable for online and mail order purchases from wineries and other producers, the Director of Liquor Licensing has revised the position. As from today the following applies to WA licensees holding a producer’s liquor licence:

  • A limit of one 12 x 750ml bottle carton per customer per week for online and mail-order sales to customers located in WA who do not hold a wholesaler’s liquor licence.
  • No limit on online and mail-order sales to customers who hold a WA wholesaler’s liquor licence or are located outside of WA.

While the concession will certainly help WA producers, they are still at a disadvantage given suppliers located outside of the state are not subject to any restrictions and can supply into WA in unlimited quantities. With this in mind, when you next order your favourite wine, consider supporting one of WA’s great wineries first.
