Rick is a senior litigation lawyer with over 40 years of experience in commercial disputes and family law. Throughout his career, he has represented government bodies, corporations and individuals in complex matters before all Western Australian courts and tribunals. He is also an experienced mediator, known for helping clients resolve disputes constructively and cost-effectively.
Rick’s litigation practice spans a broad range of industries and legal issues. His depth of courtroom experience and strategic approach make him a trusted advisor in both business and family-related disputes.
A long-standing leader in the legal profession, Rick served on the Law Society of Western Australia’s Council for 13 years, including one year as President. He has chaired or served on over 20 Law Society committees and continues to contribute as a member of the Courts Committee. In recognition of his service, he was awarded Life Membership of the Law Society in 2005.
Outside his legal work, Rick brings extensive business and governance experience. He was the founding Chair of the National Health Direct Australia Company, leading its establishment on behalf of Federal, State, and Territory governments from 2007 to 2012.
Rick is also a shareholder in Cullen Wines, a family-owned winery in the Margaret River region. Since 1995, he and his wife Bettina Mangan have developed 140 acres of vineyards with a strong commitment to sustainability.
An environmental advocate, Rick was the first person in WA to install rooftop solar panels for grid feed-in back in 1996.
Away from the office, Rick enjoys tennis, gardening and playing piano in his rock ’n’ roll band, The Inflictors.
