1. What is a liquor licence?

A liquor licence is a licence that permits a person (the licensee) to lawfully sell or supply liquor in WA.

2. How to get a liquor licence?

An application must be lodged at the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor.

3. What do I need to apply?

The Licensing Authority sets out what must be lodged for each type of liquor licence. In general, an application form, an application fee and supporting material, including plans of the proposed premises and submissions to address the public interest test.

4. What is a public interest test and when does it apply?

Applicants for the grant of a new licence or permit are required to satisfy the Licensing Authority that the grant of the licence is in the public interest. In short, that the positive benefits of the application outweigh any negative impacts and the grant of the licence will satisfy the objects of the Liquor Control Act 1988.

5. How long will an application take?

The time to prepare and lodge an application and the time it takes for it to be determined by the Licensing Authority will depend on the type of licence being applied for and if the application is opposed.
